Doty Volunteer Fire Department
Rapid City, South Dakota
The personnel of Upper Deck Architects completed the design of a new 16,200 s.f. fire station in the summer of 2008 for the Doty Volunteer Fire Department. The new station, nestled in the Black Hills, includes a 4800 s.f. lower level that will be utilized for training, physical fitness and storage. The upper level consists of numerous offices and a 480 s.f. kitchen that serves department functions as well as community events. The operations room is designed to serve as an incident control room should any local forest fire require this setup. The showcase of the facility is the open apparatus bay that stores up to seven of the department’s engines and trucks and contains a 3000 gallon water tank and fill stations within the bay.
